Library Terms and Conditions

American Fisheries Society AFS Journals Online Library and Institutional Terms and Conditions

This agreement is for the duration of your subscription and subsequent renewals as indicated on the signed Online Subscription Agreement.

The URL for AFS Journals Online is http://afsjournals.org/

Access to online subscriptions of AFS Journals is defined by the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses registered with AFS by a subscribing institution. Walk-in visitors to the library or offices of a subscribing institution may have full use of the online journals to which the institution subscribes. Beyond the library facility, online access must be restricted to staff, faculty, and students of the institution. We define "institution" in municipal terms: within a city or its close suburbs. Subdivisions of an institution (e.g., campuses or offices) within one metropolitan area are considered part of that institution for subscription purposes. Beyond a metropolitan area only; individuals registered for a "distant learning" course sponsored by the subscribing institution may access AFS Journals Online provided that their IP addresses have been registered with AFS. Upon completion of a course of study such distant access must be revoked.

Permanent access to AFS online journals is not available in years when a subscribing institution does not renew a subscription. However, a subscriber may download and (if appropriate) print out one archival copy of the purchased volume. Normal "fair use" privileges accrue to archival copies. Moreover, a subscribing institution has access to the entire historical journal database even for years in which it had not subscribed.

Within the conditions given above, a subscribing institution may do the following:

It may allow remote access to the database by a registered student, faculty member or staff from registered IP addresses within the institution's metropolitan area. Such authorized users may search the entire journal database and download articles to disk or print them out. It may allow the same privileges to walk-in users of the institution's library.

It may allow remote access to students enrolled in any distant learning course it offers.

It may electronically transmit a journal article requested for interlibrary "loan" provided that any applicable copyright notice is included, the article is printed out before it is delivered to a user and the online transmissions is destroyed as soon as the print version is delivered.

It may hold one archival copy of each journal issue in memory and have one print copy in circulation according to normal "fair use" practices.

No warranties are required of the subscribing institution and AFS offers none. The subscribing institution will not be held liable for abuses of AFS Journals Online by users but institutional assistance in halting abuses will be appreciated.
