Mixing Zone Letter and Spring 2006 Mixing Zone Update-Environmental Concerns Committee

A mixing zone is an area in a water body where pollution levels exceed state water quality standards. In January of 2006, the Alaska Chapter of the American Fisheries Society went on record with a letter in opposition to allowing mixing zones in freshwater fish spawning habitats. This was in response to proposed regulatory amendments by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC). The letter has been posted here (on the Chapter website - see link above). The "update" above is an HTML document version of the update that will be published in the Spring 2006 Chapter newsletter.
