1997 Cultural Diversity Travel Award for Women and Minorities in Fisheries

The Alaska Chapter of the American Fisheries Society is pleased to announce the availability of a $350 award to cover traveling expenses to attend the 1997 Annual Chapter Meeting, November 17-21, in Juneau, Alaska. Application form is below.

 

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

 

  1. Be female OR a member of a recognized minority group (Native American, African-American, Hispanic, Asian or Pacific Islander).
  2. Reside greater than 50 miles from the meeting location OR not reside in the city of the meeting (Juneau) in an area where there is no connecting road system.
  3. Must be an AFS member (current, not delinquent on dues).
  4. Must be in academic standing or occupation in a fisheries related field.
  5. Submit a completed application by October 24, 1997, to:

NOTE: To be considered an application must be received by October 24, 1997!

Applicants will be evaluated on their contributions to the fisheries field, the professionalism exhibited in job and related activities, academic background, and the reason for attending the meeting. Preference will be given to those giving an oral presentation or a poster at the 1997 Annual Alaska Chapter Meeting.

The award recipient will be announced in the Fall issue of Oncorhynchus and will be introduced at the Chapter Meeting.

The Alaska Chapter of the American Fisheries Society reserves the right not to present any awards. The recipient of this award is not eligible for any other Alaska Chapter of the American Fisheries Society travel award in the same year.
