Annual Meetings of the Chapter

2010 Annual Alaska Chapter Conference
The 2010 Alaska Chapter Meeting will be held in Juneau at the Centennial Hall Convention Center from November 3-5 with continuing education classes on November 1-2.  The theme of this year’s conference is “Alaskan Fisheries in a Changing World”. This theme may be broadly interpreted as our world is experiencing shifts in economics, ecosystems and climate which will directly and indirectly affect the biology and management of our state’s fisheries.

Possible sessions for this year’s meeting include:

  • Aqua and Mariculture (family tracking, preventing disease, triploidy, new hatchery technology)

  • Rockfish & Groundfish (biology & management)

  • Halibut (state & federal regulation, European farming effects)

  • Native Trout Populations

  • Shellfish (SE king crab population, “Russian” crab fisheries, shrimp)

  • Hatchery & Wild Salmon Interactions

  • Changing Use Patterns in Traditional Fisheries

  • Status of “Exotic” Fisheries & Markets (sea cucumber, sea urchin, geoduck, etc..)

  • Is there an App for That? (advances in fisheries technology)

  • Stream Restoration

  • Fisheries Enforcement & Fish Sustainability

  • Fisheries Economics

If you would like to chair one of these or have suggestions for other sessions please contact Audra Brase at 907-459-7244, or audra.brase@alaska.gov

The first call for papers will likely go out in early May.

Check back later for more details as they develop.
