Carl R. Sullivan International Membership Program

The Carl R. Sullivan International Membership Endowment Program was established to grant full American Fisheries Society memberships to scientists, biologists, and mangers from English speaking countries.

Benefits include:

  • full paid membership in AFS for 3 years
  • choice of one hardcopy or two electronic journals
  • monthly magazine Fisheries
  • discounted purchase of books and journals
  • The International Fisheries Section(IFS) has selected four individuals to receive three year membership awards under the Carl Sullivan International Membership Endowment Program Award. This is for the 2001-2003 membership year. All are excellent candidates with David Crook (Charles Stuart University) and Ashley Webb (University of Sydney) being PhD students and Wayne Erskine developing a new fisheries program with the State Forests of New South Wales. Kylie is very active professionally with the Australian Society for Fish Biology, employed by the Marine & Freshwater Resources Institute and is interested in future collaborations with AFS/IFS.

We were able to meet or email "interview" all candidates during the last year. They either were in contact with IFS members, presented, authored, co-authored papers, or presented posters (or both) at the "Wood in the Worlds Rivers" Conference last October sponsored in part by the Western Division, Oregon Chapter and IFS. All are from Australia and very active professionally within international fisheries science and interested in future collaboration with AFS/IFS. The IFS Executive Committee believes the three year term will act as an incentive for encouraging long term involvement in society activities.
