ISU and Iowa Coop Unit Host Continuing Education Workshop
On July 28 and 29, 2009, ISU and the Iowa Coop Unit hosted a day-and-a-half continuing education workshop for the Iowa Chapter of the American Fisheries Society titled, ?Routine Fisheries Analysis using the R Program?. The workshop, taught by ISU Ph.D. student Mike Colvin and organized by ISU/Coop Unit faculty member Clay Pierce, served 16 fisheries professionals from around the state. R is a freely available software program for statistical data analysis and publication-quality graphics, and its popularity is increasing rapidly. The workshop combined lectures, computer demonstrations, and hands-on computation to introduce participants to R and a variety of R applications in fisheries and aquatic science.
